430. Impatience
Sound No 430
About this sound
Impatience is an interesting word and one that is often bandied about in conversation; I am sure that we have all heard the often old comments of ‘do not be so impatient’, or your impatience will be the death of you’ and in most instances impatience is seen as a ‘lack of patience’ rather than a combination of a mental and physical process that has ‘trigger’s or reactions within the body.
The Dictionary tells us that the word Impatience is a Noun and uses a variety of words to describe ‘Impatience’, these include words such as restlessness, restiveness, frustration, agitation, nervousness, edginess, jitteriness, excitability, eagerness, keenness avidity, hunger, greed, longing and yearning as well as;
Irritability, testiness, tetchiness, snappiness, irascibility, querulousness, peevishness intolerance disgruntlement frustration exasperation annoyance pique discontent dissatisfaction and displeasure, abruptness, brusqueness, shortness and curtness.
That’s quite a list to attach to one behaviour if we see Impatience as a behaviour or a behaviour trait and we believed that it is possible to remove or dissipate some of those levels of impatience or ‘impatientnesses’ if we create a new word.

How this sound came about
Again as Susan and brainstormed and conferred over the years I was aware of my own levels of impatience, the ‘I want to know now not tomorrow and preferably last week or even the week before’ that I had attributed to my life and my ‘need to know things’!
As a child my grandmother used to quote an old rhyme to me that said;
Patience is a virtue
Virtue is a grace
And Grace was a little girl
Who never washed her face.
Nan’s words have come back to me many times over the years, and generally brought a smile when I had been ‘fuming with myself’ over delays or ‘my not knowing’.
Working with Sounds from Source for so many years they are well aware of my idiosyncrasies and I am sure that there have been many times when I have frustrated them with my ‘and, and what now and then how about and what if’ conversations. (Not to mention Susan as well).
So, when Susan and I talked about a sound for Impatience, I was the ideal candidate for this sound. It covers all of the areas I mentioned above and then some.
Does that mean that I do not get impatient any more?
Allowing that I question from Zero to Ten using the Circle of Truth process in everything that I do, I can honestly say that my levels have dropped from a 10 down to a 2, so yes I still have some levels of being impatient, however nowhere near as much as I had before.
Also remember that Impatience and Frustration can go hand in hand, somewhat like salt and pepper, where you have one you generally have the other I believe, and that’s a story for another day.

Comment from Susan - This is one sound that I need a great deal of the time… As I think many of us would. Helps manage the stress around impatience and just brings us back to a level of tolerance afterall, things can and do take time.
