415. Manipulative Behavior
Sound No 415
About this sound
Manipulation is a way of covertly influencing someone with indirect, deceptive, or abusive tactics in an attempt to ‘get your own way’.
There are many types of manipulative behaviours and one of these is termed ‘Psychological manipulation’. This is a type of social influence that aims to change the behavior or perception of others, often family members, work colleagues or friends and can be through what can be described as abusive, deceptive, or underhanded tactics.
The manipulator, often at the expense of another employs methods which could be considered as exploitative, abusive, devious and deceptive. They may tell you what they want you to believe, or direct you to following a course of action that suits their personal agenda whilst getting you to believe that it is your idea.
Many family members including parents are manipulated into giving in to ‘keep the peace’, avoid conflict or for a quiet life.
Sound Length 2.20 minutes
How this sound came about
As parents and practitioners both Susan and I are very familiar with manipulative behaviours. I am sure that we all grow up with some level of awareness of manipulation either from our own perspective or from the perspective of having been manipulated.
These awareness’s can be both conscious and subconscious or a combination of both in some instances. We are from my perspective constantly influenced and manipulated as a society by governments, media and social expectations as well as familial and genetic programming.
In creating the Manipulative Behavior sounds we are able to release many of the levels of memories from the cell memory of the person as well as the genetic ancestral line which may have locked in habits and patterns of manipulative behaviours.

Comment from Susan – Any parent will marvel at how their toddlers quickly learn the art of manipulation and as long as we know we are being manipulated that’s sort of OK. This sound is more for grown-up manipulative behavior which can sometimes be so covert or so cunning that we fall in to line without awareness of the manipulation. This sound is great for unmasking these subtle and sometimes not so subtle manipulations and in being aware – we then have choices.
