Sound No 383
About this sound
Words have a fascination for me and Disrespect like Discourteous is another word that has an old feel to it. It is not a word that is often used in general conversation and yet it says such a lot in the one word. Coming into vogue if we will around the 1800’s and dropping off from around the 1840’s to becoming more commonly used around the late 2000’s and rising slight in popularity towards 2010.
So what does the word Disrespect mean?
Disrespect is about not showing respect. It’s actually about showing the opposite of respect, by acting in a rude, impolite or offensive manner. Some of these issues or areas of lack of respect could be:
The Dictionary tells us that the word Discourteous is a noun and we can be aware of the ramifications of such behaviours if we will and the fact that a ‘Disrespectful behavior’ similar to a Discourteous behavior may activate a combination of a mental and physical processes and cell memory that has ‘trigger’s or reactions within the body and that these may relate to genetic ancestral memory and programming.

How this sound came about
Again as Susan and brainstormed and conferred over the years I was aware of my own levels of impatience, the ‘I want to know now not tomorrow and preferably last week or even the week before’ that I had attributed to my life and my ‘need to know things’ as well as the ‘doctrines and behaviors’ that had formed a large part of my own early life.
Growing up in the 1950’s and beyond languaging and behaviours were much more strict than in many of the later years and being Discourteous sound no 381 or Disrespectful sound no 383 was severely frowned upon.
As Susan and I have worked with Sounds from Source for so many years they are well aware of my idiosyncrasies and I am sure that there have been many times when I have frustrated them with my own programming and belief systems and people being Discourteous or Disrespectful and two of my personal bugbears.
So, when Susan and I talked about the levels of Discourtesy and Disrespect we decided to create sounds based around these issues.

Comment from Susan – Disrepect – this can be a loaded term and one around which many ‘social rules’ abound depending upon your family, your ethnicity, your upbringing and most of all – your own point of view. What may be considered appropriate for one in not necessarily the same for another. A word or nuance or gesture can mean many things to different people, at different times. The main purpose of this sound is to dissipate confusion around the differences and so make communication and understanding better – for you at least.
